Jenna's ultimate Top Ten Dog Collars

Jenna's ultimate Top Ten Dog Collars

1. Pink Collars: These top the list because pink collars are very easy to see regardless of your dog's breed. Pink collars suit both long and short haired dogs, and make locating leash rings and dog tags simple. Pink also shows up rather well in low light, which is a bonus for those late evening and nighttime walks. If your dog strays from home, you will not have to worry that someone will think your pet is a stray, as the pink collar will be easily seen. Pink collars are available in a variety of materials and almost any type of collar, from harness to head collar.

2. Patterned Collars: Patterned collars come in a variety of colors, including pink, and are a fun way to accent your dog's natural coat color. You can find patterned collars to suit just about every style, from modern polka dots and stripes to basic plaids. You may find a certain pattern seems to fit your dog's personality!

3. Basic Leather: There is something very comfortable about the look and feel of good leather. Dog collars are no exception. Especially nice for large breeds, leather collars are also very strong. They do have a drawback in that they are not a good choice for the water loving canine.

4. Nylon Webbed Collars: For a sporty look, nylon webbing is also a practical choice. Made for the dog on the move, these collars are stain, odor, and dirt resistant. They are a good choice for hunting and sports dogs. Nylon webbed collars are designed for the dog who wants to be comfortable.

5. Embellished Collars: Embellished collars are a fun choice for pet owners. They include rhinestone studded collars, spiked collars, flower appliques, and collars sporting little metal bones, sequins, or the like. Because of the wide variety of choices, there is a style to suit every breed. Embellished collars are more difficult to clean, and may not suit every dog's temperament.

6. Reflective Collars: For the dog who is a jogging or biking companion, a reflective collar is a sensible choice. These collars are less of a fashion statement and more of a safety measure. They are also a good choice for older dogs who need to go outside often, especially at night.

7. Themed Collars: If you and your dog enjoy a special activity, then a themed collar is a good choice. Themed collars can be brand specific, including well known names anywhere from Ralph Lauren's Polo to Harley Davidson and John Deere. Themed collars can also be tailored to lifestyle themes like wine tasting and soccer. Or, you may have your own personal interest turned into a personalized dog collar.

8. Identification Embedded Collars: Roaming dogs are good candidates for identification embedded collars. Your name, address, and telephone number are printed into the collar, or a metal tag is embedded in the collar. This can be very valuable, as outdoor dogs can lose their tags more easily running through the woods or rolling around. They are also a quiet option if you do not wish to hear dog tags jingling. This is a practical look.

9. Couture Collars: High end fashion meets the high class pooch. Couture collars vary from designer to designer. They are most suitable for smaller dogs and indoor dogs. Made from a variety of fancy fabrics and sophisticated designs, couture collars can be prohibitively expensive, and hard to clean. This market, however, is growing in popularity, and couture collars may be found in many small specialty stores around the country.

10. Breed Specific Collars: Different breeds of dog have different bodily structures. Dog collar manufacturers recognize this, and have produced collars to fit specific breeds. Greyhound collars are made thicker and shorter, providing more comfort around the neck, and removing the need to clip the end off a wide collar made for a larger breed. Pitt Bulls need stronger collars. Long haired dogs are most comfortable in rolled collars. Breed specific collars are a niche market.

9. Blue Nylon collar: This is for any boy dog and will go with any breed. This collar is cheaper than some others and can be used for any breed. These are great for people who are very fashion oriented but can be on the pricey side depending on the designer.

6. Rhinestone dog collar: This is great for small lap dogs who are often dressed. They are sparkly and not too expensive making it better than designer collars. They help add a little personality to a cute small dog.

4. Choke chain- this collar is great for those who want to have a little more control of their dogs during a walk. If used properly it causes no harm to the dog and teaches them what is acceptable behavior. A Doberman looks great with these collars since the silver chain contrasts with the dark color.

3. Pink collar: This is the perfect collar for a female maltese since the white coat will make the collar stand out. This is great for owners who dress their little princess and don't want anyone to have any doubt as to the sex of their dog. These collars are great since small dogs often don't like choke chains.
